Freakshakes have been the big hit on Instagram since last summer. You just have to take one look at these (literally) over-the-top colourful shakes to get that sweet-sweeter-sweetest craving. If you haven’t yet had the pleasure of tasting one, this is your chance to create one yourself. They’re simple and so much fun to make! We present you with three Instagram-worthy recipes that you are sure to love making (and drinking/eating) together with your friends.
Let’s start
What do you need before you get started? The basis of the freakshake is ice cream and frozen fruit. Which fruit and flavour of ice cream is up to you. Other essential ingredients include a large can of whipped cream, milk (dairy, almond or soya as desired) and a variety of donuts. You can use a large glass for your freakshake, but to give it the real Instagram look you may want to buy a mason jar. Make sure you also have plenty of biscuits, chocolate and edible decorations at the ready. And, last but not least, a blender.

Chocolate dream
This is one for the real chocolate freak. Blend three scoops of chocolate ice cream with chocolate milk. Decorate the mason jar with chocolate sauce before pouring in the milkshake. Spray a generous amount of whipped cream on top and place a chocolate-iced donut flat on top of this. Add sprinkles, a KitKat finger and some Oreos and – Ta-da!
Fruitalicious
Of course, you can take the slightly more healthy route too, in which case a fruit-based freakshake is the treat for you. For this shake, use strawberry ice cream and blend this with milk, blueberries, strawberries and raspberries (yummy!). Decorate the mason jar with strawberry sauce this time, and top this with a pink-iced donut or other pink-iced pastry. Colourful marshmallows big and small are the perfect finishing touch! All done? Enjoy the fruits of your labour!
Caramel lover
This is the freakshake for the caramel lovers among us (shhh—we know who we are). Start with regular or salted caramel ice cream and blend this with milk and a little peanut butter. Caramel sauce is used this time to decorate the mason jar. After pouring in the shake you can top this with a plain donut. The crowning glory for this freakshake is mini ‘stroopwafel’ wafer cookies, peanuts and popcorn!
