Different Date Ideas for Valentine’s Day
It’s officially February, so we’re saying farewell to dry January and starting our #14DaysOfLove countdown till the most romantic day of the year – St Valentine’s Day.
Now you may love it or you may dread it, but whatever your feelings or your relationship status it doesn’t have to be as cliché as some cards might have you believe. Forget paper roses, cards that are way too cheesy to cope with and overpriced, overcrowded restaurants that aren’t half as romantic as they seem. Instead, put the textbook away and try something slightly different this year. Not sure where to start? Well, we’ve put together a few ideas that make for a slightly different but just as fun V Day to remember.
1.Romantic evening in
Okay, so as it goes, this suggestion might not be that different, but it’s a classic and in our opinion quite often overlooked; sometimes a little bit of peace, quiet and *ahem* privacy is the best plan of action when it comes to being alone with your special someone. Leave the packed out restaurant alone and grab some fresh veg, a nice bottle of something and turn on the TV to watch (or not watch) everyone’s favourite restaurant instead. That’s right, we’re talking First Dates, who can resist that show, seriously?!
And if you’re stuck on what to wear, a new set of lingerie never hurt anyone. You can even send that special someone a wishlist if you think they’re stuck for present ideas. Of course, we’re not all lovers of this holiday, but if you fancy treating yourself instead of someone else there’s nothing wrong with picking up some daring red lingerie just for you…
Fred of first dates, the love guru himself
We know that the month of being active has come to a close and we’re enjoying being in kind-of-lazy February, but there’s nothing to get your heart pumping with your S.O. quite like a good, old-fashioned adrenaline kick. So if the idea of staying in sounds boring, and you feel equally sick at the thought of a restaurant, why don’t you try planning something with a bit more excitement?
Whether it’s a winter hike in the countryside or making use of the cityscape by scaling a building (like the O2), there are plenty of rush-filled options to fully ignite the spark between you. And if it doesn’t quite work out the way you planned, at least it will give you a funny story to tell to the grandkids for years to come.
‘up at the 02’
Valentine’s Day is all about love, that’s true, but who says you have to spend it as just a couple? It might be the holy grail of all romantic nights but, as long as your date and your mates get on, organising a group get-together might be a great way to take the pressure off.
Whether you choose to throw a party, go out to dinner or head to the pub in full force, being surrounded by a group of people that you love instead of just one could be the best Valentine’s Day idea you ever have. Little tip: might be best to check that all parties involved are a fan of the idea, as you don’t want to spoil anyone’s secret or surprise plans.
4. Girls night in/out
Single or not, sometimes the best thing a girl can do is hang out with her gang. While you can’t beat popping a bottle of fizz in your PJs and chatting about boys, we’re lucky enough that one of the film franchises of the decade is releasing its second part on Valentine’s Day. That’s right, we’re talking about an appointment with Mr. Grey.
Grab a group, buy the tickets (you’ll probably have to book in advance) and hit the screens – preferably somewhere with a bar that sells prosecco by the bottle – it’s no longer dry January after all. Just try not to go fifty shades of pink when Jamie Dornan graces the screen, as difficult as that may be. Hunkemöller has also teamed up with Coco De Mer to create our very own Fifty Shades Darker by Coco de Mer collaboration, so check out the collection if you fancy dressing the part as well.

5. Don’t plan at all
Sometimes the best things happen by chance so when better to celebrate that then by taking a chance of your own and planning absolutely nothing? That’s right, you heard, nothing. Now this isn’t an ‘it’s last minute and I haven’t planned anything’ kind of suggestion, but more a celebration of a taste for adventure. Grab your date, turn off Google Maps and go for a stroll. Who knows where you could end up?
Turn left where you usually turn right and take a road you’ve never travelled on before. Head into that pub you’ve always walked by but never entered or stop in for dinner at the little restaurant that seemed to pop up out of nowhere. Get lost in the place you thought you knew, and even better, do it together. Just make sure you both love the idea of getting lost and are sure it won’t end in arguments – though we all know where they can lead.
