Sports ambassador Carolina: “Variation is key to me”
Hi there! My name is Carolina and I’m the blogger behind Foodie-ness. Losing 15 kg helped me blossom into a “healthy me”, which is why I decided to share the knowledge and experience I gained throughout this journey with other girls. It’s also led me to this moment, to being a Hunkemöller ambassador, and I feel honoured to be part of the HKMX photo shoot. Read my interview with Hunkemöller here!

What is the best (workout) advice you have ever received?
How important rest is as part of your workout schedule and your results. As I was working hard to lose 15 kg, I thought that I had to eat less and work out more. Whenever I took a few days off from my gruelling workout schedule to give my body a break, I felt like I was slacking off or making excuses to skip workouts. I’m so happy I received the advice and insight that taking breaks is part of your workout schedule and results. But also how much rest you need to take between your workouts, and guess what? I can lift more weights since then!
What do you like about working out?
Variation! I have been working out full-time for some years now, and I honestly have to tell you that I still have to drag myself, kicking and screaming, to the gym, giving myself a pep talk every time. Because as happy as I am after I have worked out, I am less happy about having to go through the demanding moves for a whole hour. Variation is key to me. By changing my workout schedule every 8 weeks and using different workout programmes, it remains challenging and as fun as possible. I’m less easily bored and give my body a good shake-up – which yields good results.
What workout goals do you have?
Really simple, work out 3-4 times a week – every week – no ifs, buts and or maybes. It may not sound very exciting, but it’s the goal I aim for. Once I’m at the gym, I give it my best; just going and establishing a consistent gym-going habit is really important to me. I don’t aspire to become a bikini fitness model, reach a certain fat percentage or weight or score certain repetitions or distance. I just want to live healthy, look healthy and never go back to the way I was with the extra 15 kg.
Who inspires/motivates you?
The old me. That fat, insecure girl who didn’t dare do anything that the new Carolina does and thinks. I always work out alone, so I have to be my own source of inspiration and motivation. I just have to look at a picture of myself or think about back then and I know I want to do everything I can to keep working out.
If you were to choose a number you would want to play for the rest of your life during your workout, what would that be?
I don’t know about the rest of my life, but right now I’ve got a number running on repeat in my head, which is a groovy remix of “How will I know” by Nicola Fasano ft. Anni. Love it! I put it on in the morning as I hop on my bike and head towards the gym. It puts me in the right mood straight away … Haha.
How many sneakers do you have in your closet?
Oh boy, this is very confrontational! My boyfriend literally trips over my sneakers and asks me pretty much every month if I need so many. So I hope he doesn’t read this, but I have 31 pairs… I just counted them. Outrageous, really!
